Michael J. Hook

Michael J. Hook has for 20 years helped corporations, trade associations, ad-hoc organizations, elected officials and candidates for public office find creative communications solutions designed to influence public opinion and win public debates.

As a founding partner of the Washington-based strategic communications and media consulting firm Greener and Hook LLC, he has specialized in providing hands-on strategic communications counsel to clients such as Americans for Free and International Trade, Bell South, the Catholic Health Association, the Coalition for Affordable Local and Long-Distance Service (CALLS-AT&T, GTE, Bell Atlantic, BellSouth, SBC, and Sprint), Coors Brewing Company, the Credit Union National Association, Fisher Scientific, International Paper, the Justice Project, the Kellogg Foundation, the National Beer Wholesalers Association, the National Environmental Trust, the National Federation of Independent Businesses, Teamsters, and Verizon Communications.

He has also served political clients such as the 1996 and 2000 Republican National Convention, the Republican National Committee, the National Republican Congressional Committee, the New York Republican Assembly Campaign Committee, and various Members of Congress.

Prior to founding Greener and Hook, Hook served as Chief of Staff for the Republican National Committee (RNC) where he oversaw the political team that helped sweep every major statewide election contested that year (1997) while cutting an inherited $10 million long-term debt in half.

Hook came to the RNC after working for the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) as its Director of Issue Advertising where he managed a multi-million dollar advertising campaign in 60 media markets across the country. Designed to counter huge expenditures by special interest groups during the 1996 congressional cycle, this program has been credited as one of the prime factors enabling House Republicans to achieve back-to-back majorities for the first time since 1928.

Before his NRCC service, Hook was Assistant Convention Manager for the 1996 Republican National Convention where he managed the Convention's government relations, served as the chief liaison to the Republican presidential campaign and the corporate community, and oversaw its communications team.

Hook joined the Convention after serving as Chief of Staff and the chief House leadership aide for Congressman Bill Paxon (R-NY), where he played a key role in helping House Republicans achieve their first majority in 40 years (1994).

A 1982 graduate of Arizona State University, Hook earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. He resides in Alexandria with his wife, Vicki.
